چکیده

Here, we outline the calculation and analysis of first passage times to nuclear entry, starting at a specified state n = 0 near the cell periphery. Again, the qualitative features of our model are insensitive to the details of the rate parameters, and we use the representative values employed in Figure 4. From Eq. 2, the flux into the nucleus at time t is given by Jn∗(t) = lkn∗Pn∗(t). Upon using standard methods [1, 2], we obtain the conditional first passage time distribution G(t) as the conditional probability flux

Optimal Cytoplasmic Transport in Viral Infections

For many viruses, the ability to infect eukaryotic cells depends on their transport through the cytoplasm and across the nuclear membrane of the host cell. During this journey, viral contents are biochemically processed into complexes capable of both nuclear penetration and genomic integration. We develop a stochastic model of viral entry that incorporates all relevant aspects of transport, inc...

Optimal transport and apparent drug resistance in viral infections

Successful viral infection of eukaryotic cells relies on the transport of viral mate1 rial through the cytoplasm and across the nuclear membrane of the host cell. During this transport, 2 viral contents are biochemically processed into complexes capable of both nuclear entry and sub3 sequent genomic integration. Although not well investigated theoretically, the interplay between 4 cytoplasmic t...

Public Transport Ontology for Passenger Information Retrieval

Passenger information aims at improving the user-friendliness of public transport systems while influencing passenger route choices to satisfy transit user’s travel requirements. The integration of transit information from multiple agencies is a major challenge in implementation of multi-modal passenger information systems. The problem of information sharing is further compounded by the multi-l...

Function of dynein and dynactin in herpes simplex virus capsid transport.

After fusion of the viral envelope with the plasma membrane, herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) capsids are transported along microtubules (MTs) from the cell periphery to the nucleus. The motor ATPase cytoplasmic dynein and its multisubunit cofactor dynactin mediate most transport processes directed toward the minus-ends of MTs. Immunofluorescence microscopy experiments demonstrated that HSV1 ...

Rous sarcoma virus direct repeat cis elements exert effects at several points in the virus life cycle.

Two approximately 135-nucleotide (nt) direct repeats flank the Rous sarcoma virus (RSV) oncogene src and are composed of two smaller repeats, dr1 (approximately 100 nt) and dr2 (approximately 36 nt). These sequences have been reported to contain cis-acting signals necessary for RNA packaging and elements that allow cytoplasmic accumulation of unspliced RNA (cytoplasmic transport elements). In t...
